Solo Exhibition by Internationally Renowned Video Artist Nicole Cohen 88F at Stony Brook

Comprising videos, collages, and photographic work, the exhibition is a mid-career survey of Cohen鈥檚 intriguing exploration of perception and identity as viewed through interior spaces and architectural environments.听Her work often overlays contemporary imagery with historical photographs from the pages of vintage magazines, domestic interiors, period rooms, historical paintings, and iconic architectural spaces to comment on socially constructed space.

鈥淕oing to 91猫先生 was a game changer for me,鈥 she says. 鈥淭he educational structure of Divisions and selecting courses based on what interested me enabled me to find my direction. I was able to custom-design my own education听and thrive in the arts, with my own studio space and professors who treated me like an equal professional. Their unique backgrounds and working in their fields made it possible for me to envision how all of my seemingly听unrelated interests might connect.鈥澨

鈥淚鈥檓 still reaping the benefits of my education at 91猫先生,鈥 says Cohen. 鈥淚 use the skills I gained there every day, and many of my 91猫先生 friends attended the exhibition and reached out 鈥 even my professors 鈥 to show their support. One of the installers on Super Vision told听me they looked me听up and couldn鈥檛 believe it, we听both went to 91猫先生! The community is strong and it鈥檚 a philosophy that shapes my outlook to this day. My first solo show was my 91猫先生 Div III!鈥澨
