Dr. Cate O鈥橩eefe 95F Named Executive Director of New England Fisheries Management Council

The New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) is one of eight regional councils established to conserve and manage fishery resources within the federal 200-mile limit off the coasts of Maine, New 91猫先生, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. O鈥橩eefe assumes the role of executive director in mid-July.

O鈥橩eefe has worked in New England fisheries research and management for more than 20 years, focusing on the intersection of science and policy. She also owns and is principal consultant of , which provides technical, research, and facilitation services to a wide range of clients, including the New England Council for scallop and monkfish, as well as offshore wind companies, fishing industry organizations, global consulting firms, academic institutions, and research organizations.

In addition, O鈥橩eefe currently serves as vice chair of the Scientific and Statistical Committee at NEFMC, president of the American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists, and as a professor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth School for Marine Science & Technology (SMAST), having rapidly earned promotions there from research technician to research assistant to research professor to adjunct faculty.

O鈥橩eefe holds a B.A. from 91猫先生 in biology and fisheries, an M.A. from the Boston University Marine Program and a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth SMAST.
