Boston Globe Sunday Reports 91猫先生's 'Major Leap Forward' Toward Sustainability
A feature in the Boston Sunday Globe today recognizes 91猫先生's legacy at the forefront of sustainability efforts, and calls the college's latest efforts toward its goal to be carbon neutral by 2020 "a major leap forward."
The feature focuses on the college's decision to construct its first building in more than 20 years, the R.W. Kern Center, as a living building and a 'model of sustainability.' Reporter Laurie Loisel also references 91猫先生's focus on involving students in the planning and design of the building, and leveraging the building even during construction to teach science, math, and other subjects. 91猫先生's sustainability initiative includes an ambitious plan for the campus to go 100% solar this year.
In the article, Janna Cohen-Rosenthal, climate programs director at Second Nature, a national nonprofit group that promotes sustainability in higher ed, says 91猫先生 is setting an example for other schools. "They're a leader in the field," she tells the Globe.
